How to Make a Simple Cannabis-Infused Cranberry Sauce for Thanksgiving

Look, we love Thanksgiving. We really do.

But by the time we’ve juggled three different timers, been asked “is it ready yet?” for the fifteenth time, and opened the oven to find the sweet potatoes boiling over, we’re…stressed. The kitchen is a mess, the oven is smoking, and everyone is loud.

That’s where this little recipe comes in. This simple, cannabis-infused cranberry sauce is a low effort way to take the edge off the chaos. It’s a fun, modern, and adult-friendly twist that’s surprisingly easy to make.

No, you are not signing up for a complicated, multi-day science experiment. You don’t need to be a master chef, and you don’t have to make a messy batch of cannabutter. The secret is using a cannabis tincture, which makes this recipe incredibly precise and simple.

So, Why Infuse Cranberry Sauce?

It’s a fair question. Why mess with a classic?

For us, this recipe is the perfect “starter edible” for a holiday gathering for a few key reasons:

  • You can actually control the dose. Cranberry sauce is served by the spoonful, so you can start people with a tiny taste instead of handing them a mystery brownie square and hoping for the best.
  • The flavor plays nicely with cannabis. That sharp, tart snap from the cranberries hides the tincture well and just makes the sauce taste a little more layered and bright. It does not taste like “weed” so much as a slightly more complex cranberry sauce.
  • It fits right into the meal. It is just one more optional condiment on the table that people can try if they want to.

It’s a fun, surprising way to introduce cannabis to a 21 and over friends and family gathering, while still being able to keep things measured and responsible.

The Secret Weapon: Choosing Your Tincture

The real magic here is the tincture. A tincture is a liquid cannabis extract that skips the whole messy, complicated process of infusing butter or oil.

When you are shopping, the options can be overwhelming. That is where we are happy to help. At our DDM location in Blackstone, you can literally walk in and say, “I am making that cranberry sauce from your blog. What tincture should I use?” Our budtenders love that kind of question.

We stock both budget friendly tinctures and higher end options, so you can pick what fits your holiday and your wallet. You can either go with an unflavored tincture or use a flavor to compliment the recipe’s ingredients.

The most important part is reading the label. You need to know the dose per dropper. A bottle might say something like “5 mg of THC per 1 ml dropper.” That number is your key to dosing the whole batch safely.

Not sure where to start or how strong to go for your group? Our team can walk you through options. Whether you live in Blackstone or are making a last minute trip from Uxbridge or Franklin, we can help you match a tincture to your holiday plans.

A Note on Dosing (Please Read This First!)

The golden rule of edibles hasn’t changed: start low and go slow. You can always add another spoonful; you cannot un eat the one you already took.

For this recipe, we recommend dosing the entire batch with a total of 10mg of THC.

  • The Math: If your whole recipe has 10mg of THC and it yields about 10 full-tablespoon servings, that means each serving is approximately 1mg of THC.
  • The Plan: A 1mg dose is a gentle “microdose” that will allow a new user to feel pleasant effects without being overwhelmed. Experienced users can simply take a few more spoonfuls.

Remember, this is for responsible consumption by adults 21 and over. And always, always tell your guests what’s in it before they try it.

JDM’s Simple Cannabis-Infused Cranberry Sauce

This is a classic, 5-ingredient recipe with one special addition. No special tools or equipment needed!

Ingredients

  • 1 (12-ounce) bag of fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup of white sugar (adjust to your taste)
  • 1 cup of water
  • The zest and juice of one orange
  • Your chosen cannabis tincture (e.g., 10mg total for the batch) – Our staff pick is the CHILL Cranberry Syrup Tincture

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Combine the base ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and the orange zest and juice. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer until the sugar is dissolved.

  1. Add cranberries

Add the entire bag of fresh cranberries to the saucepan and stir.

  1. Cook and simmer

Bring the mixture back to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes. You’ll hear the cranberries start to pop and burst.

  1. Cool it down (do not skip this part)

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool on the stove for at least 10-15 minutes. You want it warm, not volcanic.

Why wait? If you add your tincture when the sauce is screaming hot, you’ll degrade the THC and end up with regular cranberry sauce after all that work.

  1. Add the tincture

Once it’s cooled a bit, add your desired dose (we suggest 10mg for the whole batch). Stir like you mean it for at least one full minute to ensure it’s evenly distributed, with no “hot spots.”

  1. Chill

Transfer the sauce to a bowl, cover it, and place it in the refrigerator for at least an hour. It will thicken up perfectly as it gets cold.

How to Serve and Be a 10/10 Host

You’ve made a delicious infused dish. Now, here’s how to be a responsible host.

  • Label it clearly. No surprises. Get a small card and clearly label the infused dish. Write something like “ADULT-ONLY: Cannabis-Infused Cranberry Sauce (1mg THC per tablespoon).”
  • Keep it separate. Serve the infused sauce in its own clearly marked bowl, slightly off to the side. Put a second, non-infused bowl of regular cranberry sauce on the main table for everyone else.
  • Be the guide. Make sure every 21 and over adult who tries it knows it’s infused before they take a spoonful. Remind them to start with one small serving and wait at least 90 minutes to see how they feel before going back for more.

What to Do With Leftovers?

This sauce is arguably even better the next day on that classic leftover turkey sandwich. You can also:

  • Spoon it over a bowl of vanilla ice cream.
  • Serve it on a cheese board with sharp cheddar and brie.
  • Mix it with a little seltzer water for a festive mocktail.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator in a labeled container so nobody accidentally mistakes it for a regular sauce.
